βœ… Getting Started

Setting up your profile

When you first open ReceipeMe, a quick onboarding flow helps us personalize your experience.

  1. Choose your cooking goals (healthy eating, meal prep, trying new cuisines, etc.)
  2. Select where you usually find recipes (Instagram, TikTok, recipe websites, etc.)
  3. Pick your age range so we can tailor portion and nutrition guidance
  4. ReceipeMe will show you a personalized recipe score and recommend recipes based on your goals
Tip: You can update your goals anytime in the More tab β†’ Settings.

Creating your first cookbook

Cookbooks are folders that hold your recipes β€” create one for each category you like (e.g., "Weeknight Dinners", "Desserts", "Meal Prep").

  1. Open the Cookbooks tab (home screen)
  2. Tap the + New Cookbook card
  3. Enter a name and choose an emoji
  4. Tap Create β€” your cookbook appears in the grid

The cookbook cover is automatically assembled from the recipe photos you save inside it.

Saving your first recipe

There are two ways to add a recipe:

  • Import from a URL β€” paste a link from any recipe website (fastest)
  • Add manually β€” type the title, ingredients and steps yourself

Tap the orange + button in the centre of the bottom tab bar to start either flow.

Best tip: Import from a recipe website URL for the fastest experience. Websites like allrecipes.com, tasty.co, and foodnetwork.com work perfectly.

Navigating the app

ReceipeMe has 4 main tabs at the bottom:

  • πŸ“š Cookbooks β€” all your saved recipes, organized into cookbooks
  • πŸ“… Meal Plan β€” plan your weekly meals
  • πŸ›’ Groceries β€” auto-generated shopping list
  • ☰ More β€” trending recipes, settings, and your profile

The large orange + button in the center opens the recipe import screen.

πŸ“₯ Importing Recipes

How to import from a recipe website

This is the fastest and most reliable import method. Works with hundreds of recipe sites.

  1. Find a recipe on any website (e.g. allrecipes.com, foodnetwork.com, tasty.co, bonappetit.com)
  2. Copy the URL from your browser's address bar
  3. In ReceipeMe, tap the orange + button
  4. Paste the URL in the input field and tap Import Recipe
  5. Review the parsed ingredients and instructions
  6. Choose a cookbook, then tap Save
How it works: ReceipeMe reads the recipe's structured data (called JSON-LD) embedded in the page β€” so ingredients and steps are extracted automatically.

Importing from Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest

Social media platforms work differently from recipe websites:

πŸ“·
Instagram
Gets title + image. Full recipe text requires the original source link.
🎡
TikTok
Gets title + thumbnail. Use the link in the creator's bio for full recipe.
πŸ“Œ
Pinterest
Gets title + image. Tap through to the source website for the full recipe.
🌐
Any Website
Full recipe import β€” ingredients, steps, nutrition, images all extracted.
Note: Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest don't share recipe data with apps. For the best import experience, find the original recipe website URL β€” usually linked in the creator's bio or shown in the pin description.

Step-by-step: Import from Instagram

  1. Open the recipe reel on Instagram
  2. Check the caption β€” creators usually include a link to the recipe (e.g. "Full recipe on my website, link in bio")
  3. Visit their profile and tap the link in bio
  4. Find the specific recipe page and copy that URL
  5. Paste it in ReceipeMe's import screen

Alternatively, paste the Instagram URL directly β€” ReceipeMe will import the title and photo even if the full recipe text isn't available.

Step-by-step: Import from Pinterest

  1. Open the recipe pin on Pinterest
  2. Tap the pin to see the full view
  3. Tap Visit or the website link β€” it takes you to the original recipe page
  4. Copy the URL from that recipe page
  5. Paste it in ReceipeMe's import screen
Quick tip: You can also share a Pinterest pin URL directly into ReceipeMe. We'll grab the image and title, and you can fill in the recipe details manually.

What to do if an import doesn't work

Some websites block automated access. If an import fails, try these steps:

  1. Try opening the URL in Safari first to make sure it works
  2. Some sites require you to be logged in β€” try finding the same recipe on another site
  3. Copy the recipe text manually and add it using the Add Manually option
Best supported sites: allrecipes.com, foodnetwork.com, tasty.co, bonappetit.com, epicurious.com, seriouseats.com, minimalistbaker.com, halfbakedharvest.com, recipetineats.com, damndelicious.net

πŸ“š Cookbooks

Organizing recipes into cookbooks

Cookbooks help you keep recipes organized by theme, occasion, or cuisine. Some ideas:

  • πŸ₯— Healthy Meals β€” for low-calorie or high-protein recipes
  • 🍝 Weeknight Dinners β€” quick recipes under 30 minutes
  • πŸŽ‚ Desserts β€” cakes, cookies, and sweet treats
  • πŸ₯‘ Meal Prep β€” recipes that store well

To move a recipe to a different cookbook, open the recipe detail β†’ tap the edit icon β†’ change the cookbook.

Scaling a recipe's servings

On any recipe detail screen, use the βˆ’ / + buttons next to the serving size to scale up or down.

All ingredient amounts automatically adjust with the correct fractions (e.g. 1/2 cup becomes 1 cup when you double the recipe).

Tip: Great for cooking for a crowd or halving a recipe for one person.

Sharing a recipe

Open any recipe β†’ tap the Share button (top right). You can:

  • Copy the ingredient list to clipboard
  • Share a link to the original source
  • Share via Messages, WhatsApp, or any app

πŸ“… Meal Planning

Planning your week

The Meal Plan tab shows a 7-day view. Use the β€Ή β€Ί arrows to navigate between weeks.

  1. Tap the + button on any day
  2. Select the meal type: Breakfast Lunch Dinner or Snack
  3. Pick a recipe from your cookbooks β€” or choose from the trending pool if you haven't saved recipes yet
  4. The recipe is added to that day's plan

Adding a whole week's ingredients to your grocery list

Once you've planned your week, tap πŸ›’ Add to Groceries at the top of the Meal Plan screen. All ingredients from all planned meals are automatically added to your grocery list, grouped by category.

Tip: Plan your full week on Sunday, then add to groceries β€” you'll have a perfect shopping list ready to go.

Using trending recipes in your meal plan

No saved recipes yet? No problem. When you tap + on any day, ReceipeMe shows 10 popular trending recipes you can add instantly. Tapping one saves it to your cookbook and adds it to the meal plan in one tap.

πŸ›’ Grocery List

How the grocery list works

The Grocery List tab shows all your shopping items, grouped by category:

  • πŸ₯© Meat & Seafood
  • πŸ₯¦ Fresh Produce
  • πŸ₯› Dairy
  • 🌾 Pantry
  • 🍞 Bakery

Items are automatically sorted into the right category when added from a recipe.

Checking off items while shopping

Tap any item to check it off. Checked items move to the bottom of their category so you can focus on what's left.

To clear all checked items, tap β€’β€’β€’ β†’ Clear completed.

Adding items manually

Scroll to the bottom of any category and tap + Add item. Type the name, amount, and unit. The item is saved to your list immediately.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³ Cooking Mode

Step-by-step cooking mode

Open any recipe and tap Start Cooking at the bottom. This opens full-screen cooking mode with:

  • Large, easy-to-read instructions one step at a time
  • A progress bar showing Step X of Y
  • Ingredient names highlighted in blue for easy reference
  • ← Back and Next β†’ navigation buttons
  • A list view toggle to see all steps at once
Tip: Your screen stays on during cooking mode so you don't have to keep unlocking your phone.

❓ FAQ & Troubleshooting

Why did my import only get the title and not the full recipe?

This usually happens when importing from Instagram, TikTok, or Pinterest. These platforms don't share recipe data with third-party apps.

Solution: Find the original recipe website URL (usually in the creator's bio or linked from the pin) and import that instead.

The app shows "Import failed" β€” what do I do?

Some websites block automated fetching. Try:

  1. Confirm the URL works by opening it in Safari
  2. Try another recipe from the same website
  3. Use the Add Manually option and paste the text yourself

How do I change the language?

ReceipeMe automatically detects your device language. We support English, Chinese (δΈζ–‡), and Spanish (EspaΓ±ol).

To change the app language, change your iPhone's language in Settings β†’ General β†’ Language & Region.

Can I use ReceipeMe without an internet connection?

Yes! All your saved recipes, cookbooks, meal plans, and grocery lists are stored locally on your device. You only need internet when importing new recipes from URLs.

How does the health score work?

Each recipe is assigned a health score from 1 to 10 based on nutrition per serving:

  • 8–10 Healthy β€” high protein, lower calories, nutrient-dense
  • 5–7 Balanced β€” moderate nutrition, good variety
  • 1–4 Indulgent β€” treat recipes (desserts, fried foods)

Scores are estimated from ingredient lists and are for guidance only.

How do I contact support?
